How To Make A Mini Magnetic Needle Minder/Pin Cushion @ ILikeBigButtons.com October 26 2025
So easy to make and cute! I love the splash of color Mini Fabric Cover Button Needle Minders add to my sewing station and their usefulness!
Supplies:
- 1 Completed Size 45 (1 1/8 inch / 28 mm) Fabric Cover Button
- Size 45 Tool
- Size 45 Acrylic Cover Button Template
- Fabric Of Your Choice
- 1x Small Neodymium Round Magnet (Approximately 15x2mm)
- Glue dots or comparable adhesive
I Like Big Buttons! - Picture Tutorial Below:
1. Cut your fabric scrap. You will want a circle that is about twice the diameter of your button blank. *TIP* Our Size 45 Acrylic Cover Button Template makes centering and creating the right size circle of fabric a breeze.
2. Put your fabric piece in the larger assembly tool piece (RIGHT SIDE DOWN). When you look into the tool, you want to see the back of the fabric.
3. Use a glue dot to adhere the magnet inside the back of the Cover Button. *TIP* If you are making multiple needle minders at once, make sure to space them out; otherwise, the strong neodymium magnets will attract each other and go flying across your crafting surface. :P
4. Place the button front (the domed piece) on top of the fabric. Leave the fabric edges hanging out.
5. Press the Cover Button edges down into the tool. *TIP* To make it easier on my fingers, I use a sharpie marker to apply pressure.
6. Gently tug the edges of the fabric to make sure it is smoothly situated in the tool. If you are trying to center a pattern, flip the tool over and check the fabric's positioning. Make adjustments if necessary. Press the fabric edges into the open back of the cover button cap.
7. Place the flat back Cover Button piece on top of your fabric and button front. *TIP* Make sure that all the edges are tucked neatly into the back before assembly.
8. Take the smaller PINK piece of the assembly tool and, with the open side down, place it on the button back.
9. Press down. You may hear a pop when the last bit of the button back slips into place. If you take the tool out and the button is not completely secured, just put it back in and press down again. *TIP* I often use a flat piece of wood to apply pressure, again to save my fingers. It also helps prevent the button back from going in at an angle and helps the back slide into place with the extra bulk the magnet adds.
10. When you take the small assembly tool piece off, the fabric edges will be secured underneath the button back.
11. Remove the button from the larger assembly tool piece.
12. Tada! Now you have an attractive Mini Pin Cushion/Needle Holder for your sewing room.

How to Install a Complete KAM Snap Set by ILikeBigButtons.com May 26 2025
How to Install a Complete KAM Snap Set
-
Understand the Parts
Each snap set includes four pieces:-
2 caps – tack-shaped with a pointed prong
-
1 socket – the female piece with a smooth, raised inner ring
-
1 stud – the male piece with a narrower raised circle that clicks into the socket
-
-
Prepare Your Tools
Use the black die that securely fits the rounded cap shape. -
Mark and Pierce the Fabric
Use an awl to pierce the fabric where you want to place the snap. This makes the snap easier to apply and helps ensure your snap pieces will align properly. -
Install the Stud Side
-
Insert one cap through the hole from the right side of the fabric.
-
Place the stud over the prong on the underside of the fabric, so the fabric is sandwiched between the cap and the stud.
-
Align the cup of the black die with the rounded side of the cap, and position the top rod of the pliers over the prong.
-
Squeeze the pliers firmly to flatten the prong. This compression forms a “mushroom” shape inside the stud, securing the two pieces together.
-
-
Install the Socket Side
-
Repeat the same process using the second cap and the socket.
-
Insert the cap through the opposite piece of fabric.
-
Place the socket over the prong, making sure the indented side faces away from the pin.
-
Align the die and rod as before, then squeeze the pliers to set the socket.
-
-
You're Done!
Snap the two sides together—your KAM snap set is now fully installed!

How-To Alter a Halter Top Swimsuit with KAM Plastic Snaps July 27 2022

We bought this cute swimsuit for my daughter a little while ago. The swimsuit is totally adorable, but both she and I felt it tended to slip a little too far down in the front as the day went along. KAM plastic snaps to the rescue! We turned her halter top swimsuit into a standard strapped swimsuit in just a few seconds with KAM plastic snaps.
Supplies:
(Original Halter Top - Back Style)
First, we decided that we wanted the ends to crisscross and tuck into the back of the swimsuit, to give the illusion that the straps were sewn in place. We also wanted to leave to halter top feature in case she wanted to wear the straps tied up when sunbathing.
We used G100 - Marina (Blue) to coordinate with the swimsuit's warm sea blue color. Because we wanted the straps to tuck into the suit, we installed the KAM snap Cap and Socket on the back of the swimsuit with the Cap facing out. We, then, installed the KAM snap Cap and Stud on the swimsuit strap so that the Stud faced out.
Then we simply crisscrossed the straps and snapped them in place. It's a snap!
We are pleased with how it turned out. It looks like it was always meant to be a strapped swimsuit and it can easily be converted back into a halter top at a moments notice.
Tada! Time to go lounge at the swimming pool!

How To Open KAM Suspender Clips @ ILikeBigButtons.com January 24 2022
Pacifier clips are great for making pacifier holders, bib clips, toy holders, and various other ribbon or sewing crafts. They have grabbing teeth that secure tightly.
We frequently get asked, "How do you open these clips?"
These clips have a "soft" locking mechanism in the back that makes it more difficult to release unintentionally.
Opening the clip is a 2-step process.
First, slightly lift the lever in the rear to unlock.
Then, pull the front lip and the rear lever up and towards each other at the same time.
Once you get the hang of it, they are easy to open, but difficult for little fingers or to be released on accident.
